Overview
Oyèwọlé Ògúnwálé, an influential Yoruba author and media professional, was born in the ancient town of Ìwó in 1949, into the respected Òkéyẹ̀lú family. He was the son of Chief Samuel Ìṣọ̀lá Ògúnwálé and his wife, Ṣubúọ́lá Ògúnwálé.
His educational journey began at D.C. School Àjàngbàlá Ẹlẹ́hàá, Ìwó, after which he proceeded to Ìwó Grammar School. He later attended Odùduwà College, Ilé-Ifẹ̀.
Ògúnwálé taught for several years at Baptist Secondary Modern School, Ìwó, before joining the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in Kano in 1976.
In 1977, he enrolled at the University of Lagos and completed his cultural studies in 1979. That same year marked his entry into broadcasting as a Yoruba-language journalist with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) in Lagos. In 1981, he was transferred to the NTA Ìkẹjá branch, Tejuosho station. He would later be associated with the Oyo State Television Corporation (BCOS), where his work championed Yoruba culture and language.
Ògúnwálé’s literary output includes the notable dramatic work Iyán Ogún Ọdún.
