Overview
Àwọn Oríkì Orílẹ̀ Mẹ́tàdínlọ́gbọ̀n by Adeboye Babalola is a collection of 27 lineage praise poems of Yoruba people. This book is an expanded edition of the original, “Awon Oriki Orile” first published in 1966. The author later added 11 more lineage praise poems to the collection in 1999. This is why the title of the book was changed to Awon Oriki Orile Metadinlogbon (Twenty-seven Lineage Praise Poems).
There are a lot of lineage praise poems that showcase the origin, behaviours, culture and traditions of the Yoruba ancestors in the book. To make the poems easier to understand, the author included explanation sections where the meaning of complex words and phrases in the praise poems are explained in detail.
